New KLAV 27 trains better feature
PRASARANA Malaysia Bhd’s “Kuala Lumpur Additional Vehicle” (KLAV) programme, which saw the introduction of 27 new four-coach trains on the Kelana Jaya LRT route, will bring greater technology to the service.
Prasarana Group chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said the KLAV 27 trains were equipped with a new system known as the Digital Route Map Display, which is integrated with a better door system.
“At the same time, the ‘Train Management System’ (TMS) is also improved, ” he said at a press conference during a visit to Hartasuma Sdn Bhd’s train building plant in Pulau Indah, Port Klang.
Two weeks ago, Prasarana announced that the 27 new four-coach Bombardier Innovia Metro 300 trains would be added in stages to the Kelana Jaya route until 2023.
“It will ensure train frequency is at an optimum level for the Kelana Jaya LRT route, in line with the mission of Prasarana Group to encourage people to use public transportation, especially services managed by us, ” said Tajuddin.
During his visit to the train plant, he viewed the final stages of the installation of two KLAV 27 trains, which are scheduled to be delivered to the Kelana Jaya LRT depot by the end of this year.
He added that to-date, 35 four-coach Bombardier 818 Series, 20 two-coach Bombardier 414 Series and 14 four-coach Bombardier Innovia Metro 300 train sets under the KLAV programme in 2017 as well as two coupling train sets were operating along the Kelana Jaya LRT route.
Tajuddin said 35% of the KLAV 27 project was developed by local companies as part of an effort to reduce dependency on foreign sources and outgoing cash flow.
“This includes installation of train interior, static train tests and local procurement such as floor systems, panels, lights and stanchions, ” he said.
He added this would help the growth of technology, industry and economy in Malaysia as well as boost the country’s competitiveness in the global market. — Bernama
